“The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours – it is an amazing journey – and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.” – Bob Moawad
Taking responsibility for your life is a major wake up call. When you realise that where you are is because of decisions you have made or not made – you have empowered yourself to change your circumstances.
Today I listened to a webinar about taking responsibility, and I felt it was ironic as it was something I often lectured (with much frustration) to my teenage step-son – when nothing was ever his fault. Thankfully he has turned into a great young man, but I now realise I need to have this conversation with him again so he realises he has the choice to live the best life ever……. As long as he always take responsibility for it.
I realised that I have come a long way in taking responsibility for my life when I decided to stop being a victim of; the government, the economy, the 9-5, the debt, the negative people in my life – and that’s just for starters in the last 12 months.
I felt proud that I had already come so far, but I realised there was still more that was left for me to take responsibility for, and the truth aint pretty when you start to be brutally honest with yourself.
So what stones had I left unturned – what was I still making excuses for? Who was I blaming for those other things in my life that aren’t quite coming together?
I realise that use my children to scapegoat – a lot.
They are the reason: I’m not sleeping properly, I’m tired, I’m run down, I don’t work out, I don’t complete the work I need to do to get my business moving, I don’t have time to…….. (fill in the blank)
The truth is, I need to drastically improve my diet, I have slipped into bad eating habits, and I need to make sure I do work out to enhance my energy levels.
I need to get better organised and utilise my time in the evening more productively.
I’m sure there are others if I dig deeper, but those were the ones that immediately came to mind.
So what aren’t you taking responsibility for?
Are there areas in your life where you are blaming circumstances instead of really honestly saying ‘I am where I am because of my choices’.
Once you realise you are there by choice – it is completely liberating, because you can examine what other choices are available to you to change your circumstances.
The most liberating choice I made was to realise that I don’t have to be a part of the 9-5 hamster wheel, and I don’t have to be a slave to the system. Once I made that choice, an incredible opportunity presented itself to me, and if you’ve read this far, I would like to present it to you if you have also realised that you have to take responsibility for your future and that it is in your control.
Let me introduce you to the 6 figure Mentors Stuart Ross and Jay Kubassek. These guys have not only opened my eyes, but they have blown me away with their in depth systems that have got me to a point that I am no longer sat behind a desk for someone else, but I am at home with my children and working when it suits me.
