Has Your Lifestyle Already Been Designed For You?

If your life looks anything like this picture painted below; it’s time to say HELL NO – and start creating your future – and a life by your design!  There is life at the end of the 9-5 tunnel.

When I was a career girl working in London, I was pretty well paid, and if I’m honest less than careful with my money.  I would think nothing buying lunch or an expensive cup of tea (I don’t drink coffee :)).  Although not life shattering extravagant purchases – they were made without any real consideration and certainly did not contribute to my life in any way.

I think it’s something we all do when we have a bit of extra money; we tend to spend it quite happily during more ‘flush times’.

hamster-wheelIn the past, I have certainly been a part of the consumer trap – buying what I wanted when I wanted (even when I couldn’t afford it) and only recently have I realised that it is a major contributor to the 9-5 hamster wheel mentality that has been indoctrinated into us.

What do I mean by that?

Keep Them Distracted

In Western society, a lifestyle of unnecessary spending has been deliberately cultivated and nurtured in the public by ‘big business’.  It is in the interest of western corporation for people to be careless with their money and to be kept engaged in a convenience led culture.  Big business want to keep us distracted with the next shiny thing – and we will buy it as a distraction from a life of dissatisfaction.

The Real Reason for the 9 to 5

We have been conditioned into believing that the 40 hour work week is normal – and the only lifestyle available to us, unless of course you are super rich, super clever or you have a super product / shiny thing that everyone will want.

Under the 9-5 conditions, TV and convenience become king.  You have to create a life in the evenings and on weekends, making you more reliant on those conveniences because you have such little free time to spend doing what you  enjoy.

There was a time when the last thing I would want to do after work was exercise and make dinner.  Our culture has been engineered to leave us tired and vaguely dissatisfied with our lives so that we buy into the ‘convenience lifestyle’.

This quote from David Cain sums it up beautifully:

“the 8-hour workday is too profitable for big business, not because of the amount of work people get done in eight hours (the average office worker gets less than three hours of actual work done in 8 hours) but because it makes for such a purchase-happy public. Keeping free time scarce means people pay a lot more for convenience, gratification, and any other relief they can buy. It keeps them watching television, and its commercials. It keeps them unambitious outside of work. “

Since I started running my online business, I have left behind the 9-5 mentality have found I now have time for more wholesome activities such as walking, exercising, reading, personal growth, meditating, writing and making dinners from scratch. (Notice how these activities cost little or no money, but they take time.)

In 2016, technologies have advanced and there is a way to be more productive leading to shorter work days, but you won’t find this in the conventional 9-5.

The conspiracy the western governments and big business would have you believe is that there is no real alternative to the 9-5.  I’m telling you there is, and I am proof of that as are others.

The only decision for you left to make is do I resign myself to the hamster wheel or is it time to get off and start designing my own lifestyle?
