Have you thought that you might want to advertise on Facebook. Do you know there can be some huge pitfalls if you don’t get your paid ads right? Do you know that there is a right and a wrong way to creating engagement? Did you know you can advertise for FREE?
Lesson 4 – Beginners Guide to Online Marketing – How to Advertise on Facebook.
I start with Facebook because it is the biggest social network and I’m sure that you most likely have an account that you use quite frequently – (if you’re anything like me!)
Firstly I want to cover paid advertising.
If you want to advertise on Facebook, then paid advertising is a great way to pin point your audience.
When you pay to advertise on Facebook, you can choose the specific geographical area you want to advertise to, you can also choose – age group and gender and get really specific on targetting who you think your ideal customer would be.
Finally you can select the interests your ideal customer would have.
I particularly like this feature as the interests are the Facebook pages that people are following. So for instance if you are selling health and fitness products or services, then your ideal customer will likely be following the pages of fitness celebrities and probably some healthy eating pages.
There really is an interest to cover almost every product and service industry out there. I suggest you take a look at who you are following – and consider if your ideal customer would be following the same pages.
Just a word of warning before you want to advertise on Facebook:
The first thing you must do is read up on their policies as they are very strict and they ban ad accounts permanently on a regular basis. This happened to me and I urge you to read my blog account of this experience here. This article explains the most common reasons for having your account shut down and what you can do about it if it happens to you.
Advertise on Facebook for FREE!
In order to do this you do need to set up a Facebook Page. This is a page that talks about your business. You may have heard that organic reach on Facebook is dwindling. Organic reach is the percentage of ‘likers’ who get to see your posts. It currently stands at around 2.7%, but is estimated to drop to zero by the end of 2016!!
So you might wonder what the point of having a page is. Well firstly, it is a platform from which you do all your promotion. So when you have something of value to share you can share to potentially interested groups from your page so that your private account stays private.
OK so lets assume you have your page set up. You now need to focus on your content.
These days you MUST LEAD WITH VALUE! What does this mean? It can be anything from imparting some very useful knowledge – to offering a discount on products.
Remember in Lesson One (Please go back and read it if you haven’t seen it) we discussed the importance of a free gift / lead magnet to build yourself a list of emails?
Now we get to share that free gift and get people to sign up to your email list. On Facebook there are thousands of groups created for thousands of different reasons. Join the groups that align with your product or service and share your free gift with them.
This process takes a lot longer than paid ads, because you have to do it all yourself, but it is still an effective method to get leads to your business.
Aside from using Facebook for promoting your lead magnet – I highly recommend using the platforms where you hang out the most!
